I start with topic for my website, then build my website and start writing content for it. Because I don’t sell my own products, I already know that I’ll be able to sell products from other people without an issue. What I do is called “affiliate marketing”. Some people do like to research potential products to sell beforehand, but for myself, I’m mostly concerned with finding a topic I think is interesting, with maybe some traffic numbers research, and monetization comes afterward!

Interest in the niche. Passion/huge interest is a bonus. People really underestimate this point. You’ll be eating, drinking and breathing this product/niche for weeks, possibly months and years to come if it's successful and you start focusing on growing it. Having an interest in it makes things so much easier and helps you keep going when things get tough.
Hey Arthur, glad you like the site! I don’t think bloggers would be against giving free stuff instead of asking money for it. Squeeze pages work fine. But I’d still recommend you build your own site and own platform, its just better in the long run. The way you do it is you create a free post (like this one) with free downloads inside then drive traffic to it. Everyone is happy to link to free info then you can retarget people without too much trouble.
The mistake that I made when I was a dating coach was that I was constantly hustling to get clients. Long-tail keywords are search phrases, rather than one or two words. If you are planning to promote an online poker course for example, you might do some keyword research and decide that the term "online poker course" has too much competition from existing websites, but articles based on things like "When to push during a sit-n-go" don't have as much competition and may yield more traffic.
